About C.A.T.S.
While working on a degree in theatre arts, C.A.T.S. founder, Roxanne Diesel, fell in love with youth theater which continued to be her focus for almost 30 years. When she decided to begin teaching youth classes in 1991, she dreamed of providing safe, non-competitive performance opportunities for young people through live theater. A pilot program conducted in a small community of Western North Carolina was an enormous success and led Roxanne to begin developing programs for all ages. After moving to Southern California in 1994 she began offering classes and camps through local recreation districts.
The original dream continued to grow with quality programs being offered all over Ventura County, Northern Los Angeles County, and in Santa Barbara, California. C.A.T.S. has offered exciting drama and enrichment classes and camps since 1996 in southern California. It was our belief that positive, safe exposure and experiences for youth through acting, cooking and other enrichment programs is an important component in building confidence and strong self-esteem and gives each child a way to shine!
Our campers and students were given the opportunity to become a star in our free showcase performances with C.A.T.S.
In addition to our performing arts camps, C.A.T.S. has developed other enrichment camps such as Kids Can Cook Too! Once Upon a Time Camp, Time Traveler Camp and Wizardry & Literacy camps, based on J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter books.
In 2019 Roxanne retired from offering camps and classes to focus on developing Camps in a Box with her partner, Katie Deutz, in an effort to help other teachers and camp leaders offer the fun and enriching programs she developed for C.A.T.S. over the years.
